Thanks for sharing your journey here. I liked the video, and the audio too. I just got my first boat and found inspiration here… though not near the Pacific l will attempt to conquer sailing on the Great lakes! (Your voice sounds so familiar)

Do you know what ?. The stupid background music made me not watch this. Why do people assume we want or need dump music playing all the time. House of commons don’t play music when they have a gathering for little a chit chat.

Thanks Daniel. No more big trips planned right now – just local cruising here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
I may make another trip to Hawaii in the next few years – it is the only offshore destination that I can make it to and back in an extended summer. I have been toying with the idea of doing it as part of the Singlehanded Transpac race just for fun. Other offshore destinations will probably have to wait till I retire.

So far I’ve been sailing for two weeks this summer I can’t wait to go again next week to pass my level
Hi Patrick, I have made the jacket by myself, but only to save my ribs. I was seek from punches I got sailing from all sailboat parts. I had 30 feet Greek Dromor. Named Aiolos – ancient Greek’s God of winds, who carried me from Greece to Florida. It was single-handed too. In 2008. Nice travel and with accidents too. 2 times I was for to repair broken cords of my mast.

People go sailing with a very wide range of budgets. I met a guy in Hawaii who sailed there in an old Cal 30 – I bet the boat cost him under $10,000 all in (and a fair bit of sweat equity). Of course there are folks in million dollar yachts as well, but you can do it without a lot of money if you keep your boat and your lifestyle simple. My own 32 year old boat is pretty basic: no refrigeration, no hot water, simple electrical etc. (though I have good sails, rigging, and electronics). Cheers.
Thanks for the very clear explanation of heaving to. Was wondering about that in the vid. Adventures like this must cost a bob. ( not being rude here) i wish i could do it on a lovksmiths wage!
Tremendous video! The only thing that might have made it better was if you had shown sailing into port, customs, etc.
